Who We Are
Be Fierce Self-Defense is a nonprofit corporation registered under
Maine’s Title 13-B.
We exist for one reason: to empower girls and women through mental and physical self-defense. As a mission-driven nonprofit, every program we run, every dollar we raise, and every voice we help strengthen goes directly toward creating safer, stronger communities—one fierce girl at a time.
This isn’t about profit. It’s about power—shared, taught, and passed on.

Be Fierce Self-Defense was born from one small moment that changed everything.
In 2018, I started my first All Girls Karate Club. I’d spent over a decade teaching in after-school programs, watching hundreds of kids grow stronger — but one student, a shy young girl I’ll call Jane, left a mark I’ll never forget.
One day before class, Jane walked up to me, glowing.
“Sensei,” she said, “I said no to a boy today.”
A boy had tried to take her friend’s paper. For the first time ever, Jane stood up and told him no.
I cheered her on in the moment — but later, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. For Jane, saying no had taken everything she had. It wasn’t casual. It was courageous.
And it left me wondering: If it took that much for her to stand up over a piece of paper…
What happens when it really matters? When the stakes are higher? That question changed everything.
The All Girls Karate Club became more than a class. It became a mission.
Then something else happened — the girls’ moms started asking, “Can we learn this too?”
They didn’t just want kicks and blocks. They wanted boundaries. Confidence. A way to speak up — and be heard. And so, Be Fierce Self-Defense was born.
Today, we’re a nonprofit that teaches girls and women to protect their peace, their voice, and their bodies — through a unique approach to self-defense that combines mental, emotional, and physical preparation.
We don’t just teach you how to fight back. We teach you how to know your worth, own your space, and stay rooted in who you are — so you never have to shrink, silence yourself, or second-guess your safety again.
This is real-world self-defense for real life.
Because confidence isn’t optional. Boundaries aren’t optional. And your safety? That should never be negotiable.
